At almost 2 million acres and home to very diverse habitats for innumerable marine, bird, and wildlife, visitors are able enjoy a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities. Campground areas are located along Swanson River Road, at the Skilak Wildlife Recreation area, and dispersed on various lakes at favored hiking and fishing spots; they are on a first come first served basis. There is water at all the camp areas, and most of them have restrooms. Most of the cabins can be reserved; however, some of them are first come first served. There are no electric or water hookups at the campgrounds.
