The longest undeveloped barrier island left in the world, this 130,434 acre natural area is also unique in that it is one of the most significant nesting beaches in the country for the endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. Fifty campsites are available on a first come, first served basis. There is a gray water dump station and potable water at the entrance to the campground. A camping permit is required and can be obtained from patrolling rangers, the campground host, the entrance station, or at the Malaquite Visitor Center. There are no electric or water hookups at the campgrounds.
